Zinnia Kumar blends science with art to promote a sustainable future.
Zinnia is a trailblazing model, advocate, and scientist in Ecology and Sustainability Psychology. She eloquently champions mindful sustainability and positive behavior change through public talks, press engagements, and social media. In 2021, she made history as the first ecologist on a Vogue cover in 128 years and was named one of Vogue India’s 50 Most Influential Global Indians. In 2022, she became a Sustainability Contributing Editor at Vogue Arabia.
Her eco-communication focuses on innovation, change management, optimism, and inclusivity, supported by her academic work at UCL in eco-anxiety and sustainable behaviour. At The Dotted Line (TDL), she implements mindful sustainability psychology and positive behavior change in the fashion industry with retail and luxury brands through her roles as a model, speaker, writer, presenter, creative director, and documentary maker. Zinnia believes fashion should be enjoyed as self-expression and social belonging, but be made mindfully with innovations and processes benefiting people and the planet. She advocates for compassionate education and access, creating safe spaces to inspire action, sustainable behavior and organisational change.
Her unique communication style makes complex topics relatable, positive and warm, making her a sought-after changemaker. Zinnia has written, co-directed, and presented a documentary series on sustainable innovations in fashion. She has delivered talks on various topics, including positive behaviour change, sustainable innovations, eco-anxiety, eco-fatigue, inclusivity, mindfulness, eco-practitioner support, messaging, consumer behaviour, and environmental protection at prestigious events and institutions like the G20, British Fashion Council, Harvard Medical School, Vogue Codes, Design Council UK, Vogue Business Fashion Environment Summit, Global Fashion Agenda, CFS+, Save Soil and Fashion Institute of Technology.
Zinnia’s environmental passion began with David Attenborough documentaries in her childhood. She studied Ecology at UNSW and started her career as a Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Managers (CIEEM) accredited conservation ecologist in the Australian outback working with Little Blue Penguins, raptors, and wetland birds. She worked with government and NGOs including the EPA, Birdlife, and the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water, before transitioning to science communication at the Australian Museum. Recognizing a gap between company culture, public communication, and advertising, she later focused on sustainable communication, management, and consulting in fashion, earning a Master’s in Industrial Organisation and Business Psychology at UCL focusing on Sustainability Psychology and Consulting. Today, Zinnia is a sustainability psychologist and people and planet consultant at TDL, focusing on mindful sustainability psychology and positive behavior change.
As a collaborative fashion muse for designers with shared values, a sustainability advocate, and role model for girls in STEM, she inspires the next generation to embrace fashion as self-expression while championing mindful and innovative practices that benefit people and the planet. Her warm and optimistic communication makes her a true changemaker in fashion and sustainability.
